Dr. John Gilbert Roland

Dr. John Gilbert Roland, 91, of Winston-Salem passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021.  He was born on June 14, 1930, in Winston-Salem to William Reuben and Nellie Briles Roland.  Dr. Roland graduated from John W. Hanes High School.  Having found the love of his life, he married his high school sweetheart, Louise Strupe on September 7, 1950, and that love endured throughout their 70 years of marriage.  John served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.  After attending Wake Forest University, Dr. Roland made the decision to attend Lincoln Chiropractic College where he graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic.  After working with his father-in-law, Dr. Floyd Strupe and brother-in-law, Dr. Floyd Strupe, Jr, he opened his own practice in 1974 and, with his wife at his side, continued until his retirement in 1999.  His practice flourished not only as a result of the Chiropractic care he provided his patients, but his compassion and time he spent with them talking, listening, and sharing funny stories.  John loved spending time with his family and friends.  He loved life and lived it to the fullest as long as his health permitted.  Always ready with a joke or a story, he would keep those around him spellbound by his theatrical way of sharing.  He was the life of the party.  Dr. Roland was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his loving wife, Louise Strupe Roland; two sons, John G. Roland, Jr. (Janie), and David Strupe Roland (Apryl); two grandchildren, John Joseph Roland (Christina) and Anna Louise Roland; and four great-grandchildren, John Joseph II, Barrett Daniel, Walker Earl and Dakota Joseph.  A graveside service will be held  2:00 pm Wednesday August 4, 2021 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
