Harold Eugene “Gene” Vanhoy, age 93, died on August 19, 2025, at the North Carolina Veterans Home in Kernersville, NC. Born on May 31, 1932, in Guilford County, the son of the late Charlie Frank and Lula Taylor Vanhoy. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Atlanta Braves and the North Carolina coast which he called home for almost four decades. He was a plumbing contractor and was the owner of Pleasure Island Plumbing in Carolina Beach, NC, until his retirement. Gene was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War and held the rank of Corporal and was assigned to HQ Special Troops Command at Ft. Benning, GA. Gene grew up in Kernersville, NC and attended Kernersville School. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin, Charlie Frank, Nathan, Roylee and a sister, Veleria. Gene is survived by his wife, Nancy Osborne Vanhoy; a son, Steve Vanhoy (Rachel) of Huntersville, NC; one granddaughter, Madison of Huntersville, NC; his sister, Suzie Holland of Kernersville; two brothers, Wallace of Kernersville, and James (Doris) of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held later. In lieu of flowers, the family request you donate to the organization of your choice.
