Melissa Jean (Missy) Wooten, 44, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away at her home on Friday, May 2, 2025. She was born in Winston-Salem on March 15, 1981, to Gray Wooten and Dawn Bost. She attended Forsyth County public schools and graduated from West Forsyth High School in 1999.
A sports enthusiast and athlete, Missy excelled on the basketball court in her youth and high school. However, she was most talented and at home on a softball field. She was a phenomenal catcher who attended Mount Olive College on a softball scholarship. She formed friendships on the court and the field that would last a lifetime. Missy was an attentive granddaughter who adored and helped care for both of her grandmothers until their passing. She was a devoted daughter who would sacrifice anything for her parents and continually fretted over them. Missy was also a woman whose loyalty knew no bounds. Once you had Missy’s love, you had it forever. She valued her relationships with people over everything.
Her toughness shone when she passionately defended her friends and loved ones in any situation. Her kindness and tenderness shone as she lovingly cared for her kitties and doted on her cousins and her friends’ children. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love and loyalty to those who knew her best.
Missy is survived by her parents, Gray and Dawn, as an only child; she was the center of their lives; her aunt Wanda Johnson, her uncle Jeff Wooten (Stephanie), and her cousins Stephanie, Robbie, and Ashley.
