Marcia Ann (Garrison) Wilkinson

Marcia Garrison Wilkinson, 64, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday August 19, 2022.  She died peacefully after a brave years-long struggle with cancer.

Marcia was born in São Paulo, Brazil on December 26, 1957 to John and Nancy Garrison who were serving as United Methodist missionaries in that country. She grew up in several small towns within the state of São Paulo and lived in Brasilia where she attended and graduated high school from the Escola Americana de Brasilia. She attended East Carolina University ("ECU") where she graduated in 1982 with a B.F.A. in Communication Arts. It was at ECU where she met her husband, Mark Wilkinson, from Winston-Salem, NC. Marcia and Mark were married on January 21, 1984 in Winston-Salem and their first child, Jessica, was born there.

After several years living in Winston-Salem they moved to Brasilia, Brazil where Marcia and Mark started and maintained a graphics arts business called Art & Design Publicidade. Marcia also later worked as a broadcaster at the Brazilian government's national radio station, Radiobras. Their second child, Nicholas, was born in Brasilia. After 15 wonderful years living in Brasilia, Marcia and Mark moved back to Winston-Salem in 2002 where she worked as a web designer and web content developer. 

Marcia had a full, vibrant, and happy life. She loved to create vibrant art, travel, celebrate others, and was a lifelong learner. Marcia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all of those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband of 38 years Mark Wilkinson; daughter Jessica Mehta (Parin), son Nicholas Wilkinson (Allee); grandchildren Oliver Wilkinson and Naomi Mehta; three sisters Nanette Rutsch (Steve), Jane Dytz (Edison), Rosie Garrison; and brother John Garrison.

While flowers are welcome, the family asks that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
