Meahal Duffy Obituary

Meahal "Mike" Daniel Duffy, 77,  passed away peacefully March 10, 2022 in Winston-Salem, NC surrounded by his four children. He was born April 18, 1944 in New York City to Edward and Mary Duffy

He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic in 1967 with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering. He was recruited into the General Electric Management Program and worked for GE in Erie, PA; both Deloitte & Touche, and ICC Industries in New York City; Hartz Mountain in Harrison, NJ; Richardson-Vicks in Wilton, CT and for many years as a Director at Proctor & Gamble, in Cincinnati, OH. Retirement led him to Paso Robles, CA; Leland, NC and most recently to Winston-Salem, NC.

Mike married Sandra Hixon Smith in 1970 of Albion, Indiana. He was the father of four: Mark, Tyler, Owen and Allison, and grandfather of twelve: Derek, Logan, Kaiya, Megan, Everett, Ella, Pippa, Declan, Chloe, Keenan, Clara, and Nolan. Their "Papi" was active in their lives and loved reading to them, playing board games, attending their athletic events and often sent them notes and cards in the mail.

He was an active person who loved biking, hiking, swimming, long walks and gardening. He received his Master Gardener Certification in 2013, and regularly volunteered at the Tanglewood Arboretum in Winston-Salem until his passing.

Mike was friendly, caring, compassionate and made connections with people easily. Mike always knew how to make people feel special and appreciated.  He was a natural business leader, possessed an engineer's mind, and was a lifetime student and teacher of all things in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Edward Duffy. Mike is survived by his three sons Mark Russell (Brigette), Tyler Duffy (Teresa), Owen Duffy (Elizabeth), a daughter Allison Weber (Jeffrey); three brothers Jim Duffy, Kevin Duffy, Brian Duffy, and a sister Marie Greenslade.

Mike was a continuous supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made there in his honor.

Details on a celebration of his life will be forthcoming.
