Melissa Siler Obituary

Melissa JoLynn Siler (56) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was
diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in March 2022, and she fought a brave battle until the Lord called her
home. She left this earth peacefully, surrounded by close family who all took turns praying over her in the
moments before she took her last breath at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.

Melissa, also known as Missy, was born on Thursday, July 7, 1966, in Radford, VA, to Harold and Marie Morris.
Missy had a challenging life, but she was such a strong-spirited woman who endured much. Her son, Brandon,
thought of her as altruistic and conscientious, and her daughter, Beth, thought of her as long-suffering,
light-hearted, and loving to all whom she encountered, without passing judgment. Although we all make
mistakes in life, Missy was dedicated to making sure she was doing the right thing and making the right
decisions and choices. She was always joking and making light of difficult situations; she even made several
nurses and family laugh during her last moments in the hospital.

She grew up partly in Virginia, but lived most of her life in North Carolina. Her father was a preacher, and she
was dedicated to God and loved Jesus with a passion and was immersed into Christ in February 2013 while
living in Ohio. She spent the last several years of her life making many positive changes and growing in her
faith. She moved to Nebraska with her son, Brandon, in 2016. While there, she ended up volunteering in the
Children’s Ministry at Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue, NE, where she helped teach Sunday School. She
absolutely loved it and was always sharing photos and stories of her time there. Missy often loved being on the
move, so much that in 2019 she journeyed to Togo, West Africa, to spend several months with her sister, Amy.
After discovering her cancer diagnosis in March 2022, she moved back to North Carolina in May 2022 to spend
the remaining portion of her life with her close family.

She enjoyed being around children, hence her volunteering in the Children’s Ministry in Nebraska. But she was
especially attached to her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy, and outside of God, she centered her
life around them. She absolutely adored them and took every moment to lavish herself upon them, giving them
hugs and kisses and gifts, even when she didn’t have the means to do so. Her grandchildren were a huge part
of her life, and they will miss her dearly.

Missy was preceded in death by her father, Harold William Morris, and her beloved grandson, Darius Lee
Pruitt. Her family has found some joy and comfort knowing that both of them welcomed her with loving arms
when she left this earth to spend eternity in Heaven. Grieving her loss, but also cherishing her memories, are
her daughter, Beth Barrow (35) and son, Brandon Pruitt (32); her mother, Marie Morris; her step-mother,
Brenda Morris (Mom B); her sisters, Amy Koumedjra and husband Bruno, Angela Gilley and husband Wes; her
brother, Tim Morris and wife Joni; her step-brothers Brad Gravley and wife Judy, Ronnie Gravley and wife
Michelle, Greg Gravley and wife Tanya; and her adored grandchildren, Souléjah Raelyn Barrow (13), Khloe
Marie Pruitt (12), Kaden Clay Pruitt (9), Shaelah StevieLynn Barrow (4), and Noah Liam Barrow (2).

An informal Celebration of Life service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Kernersville
Church of Christ in the Fellowship Hall. Her family would like to take this time to simply remember Missy and
cherish all the memories she left with us. Although she is gone from this earth, Missy would want to remind us
that good-bye is not forever; it is a temporary separation until we are reunited again in Heaven.

Missy’s daughter, Beth, promised to take her mother to the beach prior to her passing. However, due to various
circumstances, she was unable to do so. Therefore, Beth and her brother, Brandon, will be spreading their
mother’s ashes privately at the beach at a future date, in order to fulfill her promise to her mother.
Although Missy loved flowers and plants, much like her Grandfather William DeCosta, her family is asking for
donations in lieu of or in addition to flowers and plants to help cover any memorial costs being incurred during
this difficult time may be made to CashApp: $piritualSouljah  Venmo: @Beth_Barrow   Address: 104 Campbell Gardens Road Kernersville, NC 27284.

“My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will
never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” - John 10:27-28
